Definition:
One of six diagnostic quality indicators (QIs). Events of accidental falls were counted using the ICD-9-CM external cause of injury codes ('E' codes) 880 through 888 in the hospital discharge abstracts data only. An ICD-9-CM 'E' code represents environmental causes, circumstances, and conditions that result in an injury.
