Term: Census Metropolitan Area (CMA)

Statistics Canada defined, in the 2001 and 1996 census, as a very large urban area (or urban core) together with adjacent urban and rural areas that have a high degree of social and economic integration with the urban core. A CMA has a minimum urban population of 100,000 based on the previous census.
