Definition:

This is the number of in-hospital deaths among patients in surgical Case Mix Groups (CMGs)™ with an expected mortality rate of less than 1% based on the CIHI Benchmarking database. Examples of procedures within these CMGs include: ventricular shunt revision, PTCA, carpal tunnel release, extraocular procedures, reconstructive ENT procedures, sinus procedures, cardiac catheterization with ventricular tachycardia, abdominal laparoscopy, hip replacement, knee replacement, adrenal and pituitary procedures, parathyroid procedures, major gynecological procedures of ovaries or adnexal, and radical prostatectomy.
