Definition:

Purpose is to collect, analyze, and disseminate information on influenza activity; this should help assess, prevent and control morbidity and mortality associated with influenza and complications arising from it. It typically involves GPs who act as sentinel physicians by reporting on influenza-like illness activity and taking samples for virus isolation.
