Definition:

Special call claims are generated when the physician is required to make a special trip, over and above the physician's regular routine, to attend to a patient (e.g. home visit, or in either the emergency or out-patient department of a hospital). Special call claims are always filed in addition to the regular ambulatory visit claim; they are not counted as an additional visit, but are simply included in the total cost of the visit.
