Defined using Diagnosis Related Group (DRG)™ categories including: surgical, medical, obstetrical, psychiatric and newborn. Surgical and medical cases were further classified as emergent/urgent (admitted as emergency) or scheduled (elective) based on the admission status reported on the hospital discharge abstract.
