Glossary Definition

Last Updated: 2010-08-18

Definition:

Once an individual turns 18 years of age they are no longer considered dependents and may thereafter apply for their own income assistance, regardless of whether they reside in a family with dependents receiving IA.

This indicator measures the crude and adjusted percentage of young adults aged 18-19 who were receiving IA over three fiscal years. An individual was considered to be receiving IA if they received assistance for two or more consecutive months within the three year period. Data is from the Employment and Income Assistance (EIA) Program - (SAMIN). This does not include receipt of IA from federal programs, such as for First Nations families living on reserve.
