Definition:

Refers to the stream of educational instruction in Manitoba in which the language of instruction is in French. Since 1994, the programs have all been operated within the Division scolaire franco-manitobaine (DSFM).

IMPORTANT NOTE:

This program is for children with French as their maternal language. Approximately 50% of subjects are taught in French and 50% are taught in English. There are three schools who offer this program: Ecole Provencher, Ecole Saint-Malo and St.Claude School Complex. There were only about 10 students in this program. This program was popular for Francophones in the 1970s when the province of Manitoba had legalized French instruction to a maximum of 50% of subjects. Later changes in laws made way for the 100% Français program (for Francophone children) and the Immersion programs (for non-Francophone children to learn to speak French). The Français (FL1) Program appears to be phasing out. This information will be useful for future use of the Education data. (email from M. Chartier - February 11, 2014).
