Definition:

Care provided to patients after surgery or serious illness that may not require hospital-level care but that does not allow the patient to return home safely. Convalescent care is provided to people who require specific medical and therapeutic services in a supportive environment (Community Care Access Centre, 2005 - http://www.ccac-ont.ca - Accessed March 22, 2013).
