Definition:

Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is a common problem that affects the large intestine and causes abdominal cramping, bloating and a change in bowel habits. See MedlinePlus® - Health Topics - Irritable Bowel Syndrome for more information.

For more information, please read the Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) - Defining in Administrative Data concept.

NOTE: IBS should not be confused with Inflamatory Bowel Disease (IBD) , which is characterized by the inflamation of the intestines and is often more serious than IBS.
