Definition:

A longitudinal survey is a survey that collects data on a sample population at multiple points in time. Longitudinal survey data can be used to estimate the incidence of new cases of a disease or condition and examine trends over time in a population. An advantage of collecting repeated observations for the same population over time is that any change identified will be controlled for time-invariant unmeasured confounders at the individual level.
