Term: Unintentional Injury Causing Death
Last Updated: 2020-04-28
Unintentional injuries are defined as any death recorded in the Vital Statistics Registry with any ICD–10–CA code in the chapter ‘External Causes of Morbidity and Mortality’ (codes V01–Y98), but excluding the ICD–10–CA codes related to suicide (i.e. intentional injury causing death). As an indicator this is expressed as the average annual rate of death caused by unintentional injuries, per 1,000 residents.
