Last Updated: 2020-04-28

Definition:

This indicator is expressed as the average annual rate of potentially avoidable deaths per 1,000 residents age 0-74.

Potentially Avoidable Deaths were defined by the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI) in 2016. See the CIHI web site for more information on Avoidable Deaths .

NOTE: MCHP added ICD–10–CA code Y87.2 – Late effects of injury of undetermined intent – to the list to keep this definition consistent with the suicide indicator used in the 2019 report.
