Definition:

Secondary migration is the migration of an individual from a country of permanent residence other than the country where the immigrant was born. This type of migration can be national, or international. When the process involves more than two destination countries, it is known as ‘serial migration.’ Secondary migration may be associated with favourable socioeconomic profiles among immigrants however, among refuges it may be indicative of a hazardous migration journey (e.g. forced migration and exposure to refugee camps).
