Term: Hospital Cost per Weighted Case (CPWC or CWC)

Glossary Definition

Last Updated: 2015-05-12

Definition:

These are expected costs for hospitalizations derived from a case-mix weighting system that groups similar hospitalization records in terms of the amount of hospital resources required and the complexity of medical care patients received during their hospital stay.

The CPWC is calculated as the ratio of the hospital's patient costs for the year, divided by its total weighted cases.
