Definition:

A census definition used to distinguish between urban and rural areas. "Urban" represents continually built up areas with a population concentration of at least 1,000 and a population density of 400 persons or more per square kilometre (per 256 acres) based on the previous census. Areas with less than 400 persons per square kilometre are designated as "rural" areas.
