Definition:

A series of regular contacts between a healthcare provider, typically a physician, and a pregnant woman, that take place at scheduled intervals between the confirmation of pregnancy and the initiation of labour. The primary function of this care is to monitor the progress of pregnancy to identify complications, to provide information to the women on beneficial practices, and to co-ordinate the involvement of other providers in the mother's labour and the delivery of the newborn.
