Definition:

Suicide is the act of intentionally killing oneself. For the purposes of MCHP research, suicide was defined as the presence of any cause of death in Vital Statistics data with a code of suicide, self-inflicted injury, or accidental poisoning codes using either E-codes from ICD-9, or X-codes or Y-codes from ICD-10. See the section titled Suicide Definition in the Suicide and Attempted Suicide (Intentional Self Inflicted Injury) concept for specific diagnostic criteria.
