Definition:

The removal of a tooth from the mouth. Severe tooth decay is the most common reason for dental extractions. In MCHP research, this is limited to procedures taking place in a hospital and is measured only for children under the age of six (0-5 years old).

A limitation with this measure is that dental extractions performed in a surgery clinic or a private dentist's office cannot be identified because MCHP does not have this type of data in the Data Repository. In addition, out-of-province procedures are excluded.
