Definition:

Infections that are transmitted through sexual contact and/or by blood. Some sexually transmitted infections (STIs) such as the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), hepatitis B, and syphilis can also be transmitted through sharing of intravenous drug needles and through childbirth.
