Definition:

Tests of significance are used to determine whether the outcome of a study would lead to a rejection of the null hypothesis based on a low probability (usually 5% or less) threshold called p-values . Results are statistically significant when the probability that an observed effect would have occurred by chance is very small (usually 5% or less).
