Term: Hospital Days for Acute Care

Glossary Definition

Last Updated: 2020-05-20

Definition:

The number of hospital days coded as being for acute care, as opposed to Alternate Level of Care (ALC), per 1,000 residents. Residents could have had more than one acute care hospitalization in a year, so the acute days used in all hospitalizations were summed. Rates were age- and sex-adjusted to the Manitoba population.

For more information, see section 7.6 Hospital Days for Acute Care in Fransoo et al. (2019).
