Glossary Definition
Last Updated: 2020-02-20
Definition:
Different definitions for "hospital days" have been used in different MCHP research. In several projects, hospital days is defined as the total number of days of inpatient hospital care per 1000 residents. (Roos et al., 2001; Katz et al., 2019).
In Kozyrskyj et al. (2005) they defined hospital days as length of stay for a hospitalization. New hospital days were identified if there were no hospital discharges in the year prior. See Length of Stay (LOS) for more information.
In Chateau et al. (2019) they defined this as the number of hospital days per person-year, and excluded non acute-care facilities.
