Term: Residential Charges
Last Updated: 2007-02-23
Effective 1993, individuals are required to pay a daily residential fee once they are admitted into a personal care home (PCH), or once they are panelled (accepted) for admission into a PCH, and are waiting for placement in a hospital. This fee is calculated according to the individual's net income and the income of his or her spouse if applicable. Residents who have a net income below a minimum level, have dependents in the community, and are not eligible for select pensions or other forms of financial assistance may also have the residential fee reduced or waived. This information can be used to identify socio-economic status (SES) for PCH residents.
