Suicidal individuals are individuals aged 10 years or more who attempted or completed suicide within a five-year period, and were identified by the presence of any specified ICD-9-CM or ICD-10 codes in Vital Statistics records, medical services/physician claims, or hospital discharge abstracts data. This is stated as a percentage of the population aged 10+ years who have these conditions according to the definitions. See the subsections on "Suicide" and "Suicide Attempts" in the Suicide concept for specific diagnostic criteria on suicidal individuals.
