Definition:

A condition of pregnancy where a "placenta implanted in the lower segment of the uterus, presenting ahead of the leading pole of the fetus". (Oppenheimer L et al., 2007). In Heaman et al. (2012), a woman was considered to have had a placenta previa/abruptio placenta diagnosis if the ICD-10-CA code of O44 or O45 was present.
