Term: Postneonatal Mortality Rate

The number of deaths of live born babies weighing 500 grams or more between 28 and 364 days after birth per 1,000 live births.
This weight is consistent with definitions used by the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC).
The primary cause of postneotnatal death, identified from the Vital Statistics data, were grouped into the following categories: Congenital Anomalies, Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, Injury, Respiratory System, Infectious/Parasitic, Nervous System, Endocrine/Metabolic, Digestive, Other (includes all reasons not elsewhere classified) and Ill Defined/Unknown. See Appendix Table A.4: Table of Codes - Causes of Neonatal and Postneonatal Death for a list of ICD-10 codes used for each of these categories.
