Definition:
An inpatient hospitalization where the main reason for the hospital stay was the treatment of a mental illness or disorder. In Fransoo et al. (2013), Mental Disorders hospitalizations were defined by major clinical categories (MCC) code 17. Only patients age 18 at older at time of admission were placed into this category. See Service Type - Hospital for further details about classification of hospitalizations and days of care.
