Term: ICD-10-CA Codes for Motorized Pedestrian Conveyance Devices and Motorcycles

On April 1, 2025, the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI) released a bulletin providing a new ICD-10-CA coding direction for accidents related to motorized pedestrian conveyance devices and motorcycles that cause injury. This includes:
These new diagnosis codes can be recorded on the Discharge Abstract Database (DAD) or the National Ambulatory Care Reporting System (NACRS) beginning April 1, 2025. There should be an injury code (S00-T98), an external cause of injury code (V01-Y98), and, if relevant, the applicable specificity code from U50 / U51 coded with a diagnosis type = 3 (secondary diagnosis).
