Glossary Definition

Last Updated: 2007-09-26

Definition:

Causes of death were determined from provincial vital statistics that use death certificates (also known as the Medical Certificate of Death). The "main cause of death" is used in rate calculations. Only one "cause" can be given, even with persons with multiple health problems. In some cases it is difficult to know the cause of death precisely.
