Definition:

The Injury Mortality Rate is the age- and sex-adjusted annual rate of mortality due to injury, usually expressed per 1000 residents. These rates are calculated by dividing the total number of deaths due to injury in a given year(s) by the population as of December 31 of the same year(s). Rates may be calculated using several years of data.
