Term: Grade 3 Students with No School Changes

Glossary Definition

Last Updated: 2010-08-10

Definition:

The number of times a student changed schools that was not part of an expected progression through the grades was counted. Expected progressions were identified when a student reached the highest grade of a school and the next year transferred to a different school (i.e., graduating from grade 6 in one school and starting grade 7 in another school). In this study, the number of school changes for children starting in Grade 3 during 2003/04 and followed until 2006/07 was counted. In most schools in Manitoba there are no expected school changes between Grade 3 and Grade 6. First Nationa schools (formerly referred to as Band-operated schools) were excluded.
