Definition:

This is a derived variable from the Canadian Community Health Survey (CCHS) that combines a number of questions on activity restrictions. This variable is a crude measure of the impact of long-term physical conditions, mental conditions, and health problems on the principal domains of life: home, work, school, and other activities. The question was "Does a long-term physical condition or mental condition or health problem reduce the amount or the kind of activity you can do (at home, in school, at work, in other activities)?" with the available responses of sometimes, often, never, or not stated. In our analyses, the responses "sometimes" and "often" were combined to get a yes/no variable. Participants whose derived variable response was "not stated" were excluded from analyses.
