Term: Home Care Prevalence

Glossary Definition

Last Updated: 2011-10-24

Definition:

The percentage of the population with at least one open home care case in a three-year period. Use of home care outside of Winnipeg was identified from the Manitoba Support Services Payroll (MSSP) system. Within Winnipeg home care was identified using the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority (WRHA) Home Care MDS Assessment database. In cases where individuals were found in both the MSSP and MDS data, the MDS data was used.

In Fransoo et al. (2011), prevalence was calculated by percentage of survey participants with an open home care case for at least one day in the three years after their survey date. Rates were weighted to the Manitoba population and adjusted for age, sex, and Body Mass Index (BMI) group.
