Definition:
Statistics Canada defined employed persons as those persons, excluding institutional residents who, during the week (Sunday to Saturday) prior to Census Day (1996), worked for pay, were self-employment, or worked without pay for a family business, farm or professional practice. It is based on employment rates for the populations aged 25-44 years, from the 1986, 1991 and 1996 Census using a 20% sample.
