Glossary Definition

Last Updated: 2007-09-26

Definition:

FAS was defined as the presence of ICD-9-CM code 760.71 (fetal alcohol syndrome) in hospital discharge abstracts or Mental Health Management Information System (MHMIS) data. These administrative data sources seem to significantly under-count the number of cases when compared to information from the Clinic for Alcohol and Drug Affected Children at Health Sciences Centre. Therefore, analyses were not conducted using these data.
