Definition:
The newborn separation abstract is a hospital discharge abstract with an abstract type = "Newborn and Stllborn". The newborn abstract contains patient data related to the birth of a child/children such as birthweight, the Apgar scores at 1 and 5 minutes, gestational age, and numerous ICD-9-CM diagnostic codes describing neonatal morbidity and conditions.
