Last Updated: 2020-05-20

Definition:

This indicator measures the rate at which area residents were hospitalized for Ambulatory Care Sensitive Conditions (ACS), per 1000 residents aged 0-74 per year. The idea behind this measure was that if people receive an adequate level of good quality primary care, they should not need to be hospitalized for these conditions.

See the Ambulatory Care Sensitive (ACS) Conditions concept for more information, including the ICD codes used to define these conditions.
