Term: Frequency of Binge Drinking
Last Updated: 2015-05-22
This is a measure of how often a person binge drinks (has five or more drinks on one occasion).
In the CCHS, participants were asked, "During the past 12 months, have you had a drink of beer, wine, liquor or any other alcoholic beverage?", and those who did not answer "No" were then asked, "How often in the past 12 months have you had five or more drinks on one occasion?" Respondents were grouped into categories related to the frequency of binge drinking. These categories differ depending on the research.

This term has also been referred to as "Frequency of Having Five or More Drinks with Alcohol" and "Frequent Binge Drinking" in MCHP research.
