Term: Location of Visits to Physicians / Primary Care Providers

Glossary Definition

Last Updated: 2020-05-19

Definition:

This indicators provides information regarding where Regional Health Authority (RHA) residents went for ambulatory visits to physicians / primary care providers using the following categories:

  1. percent of visits in patient's RHA district,
  2. percent of visits elsewhere in patient's RHA,
  3. percent of visits to another RHA, and
  4. percent of visits to Winnipeg.
In Fransoo et al. (2013), the location of ambulatory visits was calculated for two different fiscal years. Only ambulatory visits to family physicians were counted, defined by mdbloc = 11. Only visits for Manitoba residents within Manitoba were counted; this may result in some possible under-counting of visits to RHA districts that border other provinces.

NOTE: This term has also been called "Location of Visits to General and Family Practitioners" and "Location of Visits to Family Physicians and Nurse Practitioners".
