Definition:

This indicator counts the number of ambulatory visits to specialist physicians, as defined in Chartier et al. (2015).

In this research, specialist physicians included: internal medicine (MD Bloc 01), psychiatry (MD Bloc 03), general surgery (MD Bloc 041), surgical specialties excluding dental (MD Bloc 042 to 046, 049, 141, 142), ophthalmology (MD Bloc 051), otorhinolaryngology (MD Bloc 052), EENT (MD Bloc 053), dermatology (MD Bloc 06), OB/GYN (MD Bloc 09), physical medicine (MD Bloc 12), and oncology (MD Bloc 15).

Exclusions:

• visits to nephrologists (adult and pediatric); and
  
• visits to pediatricians
