Definition:

Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation II (APACHE II), is a severity-of-disease classification system calculated using information (values of 12 clinical measurements) from the first 24 hours after admission to an intensive care unit (ICU). This system takes into account the patient's age, chronic health conditions and physiological variables (the acute physiology score). Higher scores correspond to more severe disease and a higher risk of death.
