Definition:
The percent of area residents who received at least one ambulatory visit to a physician / primary care provider during a fiscal year. Ambulatory visits include virtually all contacts with physicians / providers, except during inpatient hospitalization. Values are age- and sex-adjusted to the Manitoba population.
The percentage of residents who see a physician / provider at least once over the course of a year gives an indication of the accessibility of ambulatory care for local residents.
NOTE 1:
Primary care providers include family physicians and nurse practitioners.
NOTE 2:
In MCHP research this term has been referred to as "Use of Physicians", "Access to Physicians", and "Use of Physicians and Nurse Practitioners".
