Glossary Definition

Definition:

A standard data file / structure developed by the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI) for use in acute care facilities across Canada. The data, collected on every discharge from an acute care hospital in Manitoba, is maintained by Manitoba Health. Most of Canada uses the CIHI DAD format. Provincial governments forward their hospital data to CIHI and they assign the case mix groups (CMGs™) and calculate the appropriate resource intensity weight (RIW™) as value added data. The DAD data is then returned to each province for storage and analysis. In Manitoba, use of the DAD began on April 1, 2004.
