Term: Arrival Date
Glossary Definition
Last Updated: 2025-07-18
Definition:
Date of arrival in Canada as a temporary or permanent resident. This may occur before the Landing Date for those who move to Canada on a temporary visa and later receive their permanent residence. For immigrants with no history of temporary visas, the Arrival Date is missing in the IRCC Permanent Resident Database, meaning that the arrival date is the Landing Date. Immigrants who resided temporarily before their landing date have an arrival date that is not missing.
Arrival date (ARRIVAL_DT) is a variable that can be found in the
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) Registry Database
Permanent Resident data, in both the LEGACY LANDING and LANDING files, but only in the 2019 version of the data. In the 2023 and later versions, arrival date must be determined by searching the temporary resident datasets to find the appropriate or earliest sign date (SIGN_DT) value for each person.
