Last Updated: 2011-05-30

Definition:

The use of services provided in personal care homes (PCHs). The following variables have been used by Martens et al. (2003) and/or Martens et al. (2004) to analyze PCH use:

  1. Admissions - those admitted to a PCH in Manitoba during the relevant time period
  2. Median wait times for admission
  3. Level of Care (LOC) at admission
  4. Length of Stay (LOS) (Days) - the total number of days occupied by residents of PCHs
  5. Bed supply - the number of available PCH beds per 1000 residents age 75 and up

Martens et al. (2003) did not include Federal PCH residents in the above variables to assess PCH use, except for bed supply.

The PCH use of a cohort of individuals with cumulative disorders was compared to the PCH use of individuals with no disorders by Martens et al. (2004) .
