Concept: Mortality Rate Calculation
Concept Description
Last Updated: 2003-03-06
Introduction
Mortality rates are typically calculated within 60 and 90 days of hospital admission and 30 days of hospital discharge.
Mortality for AMI, cancer, and hip fracture was defined using the program,
death_adm.txt
(see
Mortality SAS Code
below) -
(internal access only)
, which keeps people in only one of these categories (e.g. if a person had a hip and AMI then that person is only assigned as having an AMI). Randy Walld was responsible for identifying these three events in conjunction with the mortality measures.
This program was used to generate the results in the
Monitoring the Winnipeg Hospital System deliverables.
