Term: Hospitalizations
Glossary Definition
Last Updated: 2011-06-02
Definition:
The number of residents from a given region who had one or more hospital separations during the year.
Doupe et al. (2008)
defined hospitalization as admission to a hospital as an inpatient (i.e., with at least one overnight stay). Brownell et al. (2008) also used this definition in the
Manitoba Child Health Atlas Update
.
In Ruth et al. (2015), rates for inpatient hospital episodes were calculated (i.e. transfers within the same hospitalization are not counted as separate events) per 1000 person-years.
