Definition:

The International Classification of Disease (ICD) coding system divides diseases and health conditions into similar categories based on body systems and health conditions. These categories are represented by different chapters in the ICD documentation. For some indicators used in MCHP research, the individual ICD Chapters have been used to classify these diseases and conditions. In addition, over time, changes to the ICD coding system have led to the capture of different versions of ICD data.

ICD-9-CM CHAPTERS

In the deliverable Sex Differences in Health Status, Health Care Use, and Quality of Care: A Population-Based Analysis for Manitoba's Regional Health Authorities by Fransoo et al., (2005), they used the ICD-9-CM chapters to classify diseases and conditions for certain indicators.
