Definition:

This indicator measures the percentage of women with newborns (live birth) who self-reported smoking during pregnancy on the Families First Screening Form.

Additional information about prenatal smoking can be found in the Hospital Abstracts data, if the mother is admitted to hospital during the gestation period and has either of the following codes: ICD-9-CM code 305.1 (tobacco use disorder) or ICD-10-CA code F17 (mental and behavioural disorders due to use of tobacco). There is also a SMOKE_CNT (cigarette use per day) variable on the maternal delivery record, available from 2004/05 onward.
